In a meeting held on price control, Industries Minister Mian Aslam Iqbal explained the progress that had been made. Mian Aslam was chairing the meeting in which the chief secretary, administrative secretaries of relevant departments, including food, agriculture, and industries, the Urban Unit chief executive officer, and the Lahore commissioner were present. The meeting took place via a video link, Sunday.

The Punjab government has arrested 47 individuals this month in its bid to crackdown on profiteers and control the prices of commodities. The Punjab government has also imposed fines worth Rs6 million, and registered 42 cases against violators of the standard prices.

The prices and availability of essential commodities, such as flour and sugar were reviewed during the meeting. The performance of price control magistrates was also brought up. The meeting decided to take “unconventional and innovative” measures to overcome the issue of price hikes.

Minister Iqbal also stressed the importance of the agriculture sector and its health in ensuring the availability and control of these essential commodities. He said that the prices of vegetables and other items should be monitored stringently, and attentively to ensure that they do not inflate beyond control.
