Millie Bobby Brown takes a stand against media’s obsession with her appearance

Millie Bobby Brown is calling out the media for scrutinizing her changing appearance, labeling it as bullying rather than journalism. In a powerful Instagram post, she condemns clickbait headlines and urges for greater support of young women in the public eye.

Millie Bobby Brown is speaking out against what she describes as disturbing and bullying media coverage of her changing appearance. The 20-year-old Stranger Things star took to Instagram with a lengthy post condemning journalists and publications for scrutinizing her body and personal choices.

“I want to take a moment to address something that goes beyond just me—something that impacts every young woman growing up under public scrutiny,” Brown wrote.

Having entered the industry at just 10 years old, she reflected on how the world watched her grow up. However, instead of acknowledging this natural change, she feels people expect her to remain the same. “They act like I should still look the way I did in Stranger Things Season 1. And because I don’t, I’ve become a target,” she explained.

Brown specifically called out articles with headlines like ‘Why Are Gen Zers Like Millie Bobby Brown Aging So Badly?’ and ‘What Has Millie Bobby Brown Done to Her Face?’—criticizing the media for promoting clickbait narratives that shame young women for simply growing up. She also pointed to a recent article amplifying a “mommy makeover” insult from comedian Matt Lucas.

This isn’t journalism. This is bullying,” she stated. “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices—it’s disturbing.”

She also expressed disappointment in seeing female journalists contribute to such negative coverage.

“The fact that some of these articles are written by women? Even worse. We always talk about supporting and uplifting young women, but when the time comes, it seems easier to tear them down for clicks,” she wrote.

Her post quickly gained traction, with thousands of fans and celebrities rallying behind her. Many praised her for using her platform to speak out against the damaging effects of media scrutiny on young women in Hollywood.
