Mob allegedly harass female foreign tourists in Islamabad on Sunday 14th August. Videos circulating on social media show a mob allegedly misbehaving and harassing two female foreign tourists in Shakarpariyan, Islamabad.
The tourists were out to witness the 14th August celebrations when a mob allegedly surrounded them and chased them. Videos show men surrounding women taking out mobile phones and trying to take pictures with them. The incident left the social media users upset and enraged. They have urged the authorities to take strict action against the people visible in the video. The video shows the foreign tourists had even covered their heads with a dupatta. Some even tried to touch them as well.
Social media users argued that police and law enforcement agencies must ensure a safe environment for females and foreign tourists specifically since such incidents bring a bad name to the country when the government is making efforts to promote tourism in Pakistan.
According to the reports from Islamabad Police, the incident happened at Pakistan Monument. Police say no complaints were received by police on the incident.

“No one complained to the administration present at the site of the incident”, the police said.
A Twitter page with the name Islamabad Updates shared the videos. The page regularly shares updates on activities in Islamabad.

The tourists were visibly shocked and distressed as they were surrounded by the mob.
“Boys misbehaving with foreign tourists on the occasion of #Pakistan’s #IndependenceDay in Shakarparian, #Islamabad. Authorities must identify and punish the culprits,” the video caption said.
Islamabad Police say they have filed a complaint and have sent the videos to NADRA for the identification of the men in the videos. They have ensured that full action will be taken against the alleged harassers in the video.
