Mohsin Naqvi appointed as the head of Asian Cricket Council

Mohsin Naqvi has been elected as the Head of the Asian Cricket Council, succeeding Sri Lanka’s Shammi Silva. He aims to drive innovation, youth engagement, and the global expansion of Asian cricket.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi was elected as the Head of the Asian Cricket Council on Thursday.

The regional cricket body announced on Thursday evening that Mohsin Naqvi succeeded President of Sri Lanka Cricket Shammi Silva as the Head of the Asian Cricket Council.

The ACC’s official press release welcomed Naqvi’s appointment.

“Naqvi brings a visionary approach focused on unity, innovation, and strategic growth, reinforcing Asia’s position as the epicentre of world cricket. Under his leadership, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) looks forward to a dynamic and collaborative future, with an enhanced commitment to development programs, youth engagement, and elevating the global prominence of Asian cricket,” it said.

In his remarks, Naqvi said it is an honour to be appointed to the prestigious position. “I am deeply honoured to assume the presidency of the Asian Cricket Council,” he said. “Asia remains the heartbeat of world cricket, and I am committed to working with all member boards to accelerate the game’s growth and global influence.

“Together, we will unlock new opportunities, foster greater collaboration, and take Asian cricket to unprecedented heights,” he added.

Silva remained on the chair only for three months, when Jay Shah quit the position to assume the charge as the ICC Chair. “It has been a privilege to serve as President of the Asian Cricket Council,” Silva said. “The steadfast commitment of our member boards working together has been pivotal in elevating ACC’s stature across the region.” Silva further thanked Shah and expressed confidence in Naqvi’s “capable leadership”.

Interestingly, Chairman PCB is a member of the Senate in Pakistan as well as the Federal Interior Minister.

In the related news, the Pakistan Cricket Team is experiencing a constant decline in performance with consecutive losses. The team lost the T20I as well as the ODI away series against New Zealand.
