Police had included Mufti Qavi’s name as a suspect in the murder case on the request of her father, Muhammad Azeem who in a statement before the police suspected the cleric’s possible role in her murder.

After appearing in the court of District and Sessions Judge Chaudhry Ameer Ahmad Khan on 17 October, Qavi while talking to media iterated that he will accept whatever decision the court announces. However, Mufti’s flight from court & subsequent arrest indicate that he has refused to accept the court’s decision.

Institutions at the beck and call of the Rich and Powerful

Powerful people in Pakistan use institutions to bail themselves out and dodge justice. Police, NAB, FIA, and FBR among others have become a tool used by the mighty to suppress the truth. Even doctors play a major role in protecting the accused. Mr. Musharraf was ‘advised’ by doctors to travel abroad for treatment which otherwise ‘might’ have led to the deterioration of his health.

The federal government used his poor health as an excuse to take his name off the Exit Control List. Mr. Musharraf is fine and healthy now, ‘thanks to the timely action taken by the Federal government’. Similar pretexts have been used for Dr. Asim, Mr. Hijazi and now Mufti Qavi.
