Haniya Aslam, one half of the musical duo Zeb and Haniya, has tragically passed away, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest.
Zeb Bangash, her musical partner and cousin, confirmed the news on Instagram by sharing a few photos of Haniya—an exceptional guitarist—with the caption “Hanini.” Haniya was widely regarded as one of the country’s finest musicians, collaborating with Zeb on numerous melodious compositions as part of their band. In 2014, Haniya moved to Canada to pursue a solo music career and deepen her understanding of the art.

Zeb and Haniya gained popularity for their beloved tracks such as ‘Paimona’, ‘Chal Diye’, and ‘Chup’ from Coke Studio Pakistan’s Season 2. Their upbeat number ‘Bibi Sanam’ also showcased their versatile talent.
Beyond her work with the band, Haniya contributed to the music industry as a sound engineer for the Pakistani short film ‘Lala Begum’ (2016) and produced music for the romantic film ‘Dobara Phir Se’ the same year. She also co-authored one of the few books on Pakistan’s contemporary youth music.
Her sudden passing has left friends, acquaintances, and fans both in Pakistan and across the border in deep shock.

Indian lyricist and playback singer Swanand Kirkire took to X (formerly Twitter) to mourn the loss of his “dear friend,” writing, “My dear friend Haniya Aslam (from Zeb and Haniya) has left us. She had a cardiac arrest. Rest in peace dear Haniya.”
Fasi Zaka, a Pakistani commentator, columnist, and radio jockey, also expressed his sorrow on X, stating, “Haniya Aslam passes away. What a talented musician and kind soul. May she Rest in Peace. Truly saddening.”
