Arshad Sharif, a strong supporter of PTI chairman and former Prime Minister Imran Khan, was shot dead in Kenya’s Nairobi city on October 23.

The death of the journalist sent shock waves across rights organizations, the media fraternity, and civil society and prompted calls for thorough investigation and disclosure of facts.

At least 25,000 people attended Arshad Sharif’s funeral at Faisal Mosque to pay their respects to the veteran journalist. Many mourners gathered in the vast courtyard of the Faisal Mosque, one of Pakistan’s largest, and chanted slogans such as “Arshad, your blood will usher in revolution and “God is great!”

Kenyan police first said that Arshad Sharif was killed in a case of “mistaken identity” but since the seasoned journalist’s post-mortem and his body’s transfer to his home country, several Kenyan news outlets have not only questioned the police’s conduct but have raised questions over the manner in which he was killed.

An investigation is currently underway in Pakistan as well. According to the details, a two-member fact-finding committee was set up by the federal interior ministry to investigate the killing of Arshad Sharif.

Several Pakistani political figures were made part of the investigation. Recently, PTI leader Murad Saeed was accused of having Arshad Sharif’s laptop and the FIA has summoned him in this regard.
