In the wake of the February 8 general election, Nawaz Sharif, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) contender for the premiership, addressed a jubilant crowd in Lahore’s Model Town, expressing his aspiration to forge a cohesive government following what he termed as the PML-N’s triumph in the polls. Asserting his intention to form a united front, Sharif delegated the task of coalition-building to Shehbaz Sharif, with directives to engage with key figures such as Fazlur Rehman, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, and Asif Ali Zardari.
However, despite Sharif’s confident assertions, initial results suggested a lead for candidates backed by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) with over 100 seats, placing the PML-N in a trailing position. Nevertheless, senior PML-N figures maintain optimism, claiming a substantial victory and expressing their determination to assume governance at the national level.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering prematurely, Sharif emphasized the importance of collective effort in steering Pakistan out of its current challenges. While awaiting the Election Commission of Pakistan’s complete tally, Sharif expressed his appreciation for party workers’ dedication, attributing their efforts to what he perceives as the PML-N’s emergence as the foremost political entity in the country.

Extending an olive branch to all political factions, Sharif reiterated his party’s commitment to national unity and invited collaboration in the nation’s restoration. Emphasizing the PML-N’s track record and its vision for a prosperous Pakistan, Sharif advocated for bipartisan cooperation in confronting the nation’s myriad issues.
Promising swift action to alleviate the populace’s woes, Sharif pledged to prioritize job creation and economic opportunities. He also outlined his foreign policy objectives, aiming to foster regional stability through improved diplomatic relations.
