The appointment of former captain Salman Butt as part of the Selection Committee for the Pakistan Cricket Team by PCB sparks serious backlash online.
Salman Butt was punished and fired from Pakistan Cricket following his participation in the spot-fixing scandal along with Mohammad Amir and Muhammad Asif in 2010. Butt after found being proven guilty in the case was convicted and banned from cricket.
His return to PCB did not meet positive reactions from former cricketers, fans, and analysts. He is part of the selection committee along with Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar Anjum. The committee is headed by Wahab Riaz. These three former players will act as consultants.
Cricket veteran Sarfaraz Nawaz expressed disappointment over the return of Salman Butt. Talking to a local media outlet, he said, that such appointments will bring a bad name to PCB.
“All my life I have been fighting against this menace and had to shift to England under growing life threats from the mafia. When I came to know that the PCB is making no difference in clean and tainted players, I was shocked,” said Sarfaraz Nawaz.
