NFAK Rolls in his Grave: Bollywood’s Attempt at NFAK Classical ‘Kinna Sona’

Bollywood ruins NFAK's another classical rendition and social media is furious.

Indian music producer Bally Sagoo has objected to the recently released song ‘Kinna Sona’ from Siddharth Malhotra’s upcoming movie ‘Marjawan’. The song is the third rendition of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s classic song ‘Kinna Sona’. And social media users included Bally Sagoo are disillusioned with the latest version, with Bollywood again failing to produce an impressive rendition.

The third version is sung by Jubin Nautiyal, Dhwani Bhanusali and written by Kumaar. The song is composed by Meet Bros and produced by T-Series.

The Bally Sagoo while sharing the song on his Twitter account asserted that the ‘song is the blatant copy of my original Kinna Sona which I produced in 91 with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. My legal team is looking into this.’

While the music producer has warned the filmmakers of legal action. He added that they copied his song without seeking his permission and did not give him credit even after the release of the song. The netizens also slammed the music producing companies to stop experiment with the old classics.

A score of social media users formally requested the music producers to produce new and original songs for the movie instead of ruining beautiful compositions. The renditions are in no way at par with the classics.

Before Marjavaan, Amir Khan and Karishma Kapoor’s movie Raja Hindustani (1996) also featured a rendition of ‘Kinna Sona’ with a changed name ‘Kitna Pyara Tujhe Rab Ne Banaya’.

A social media user mocking the song said that singing maestro Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan would have been highly upset after listening to the song. Bollywood followers have requested the film industry to shun the practice of producing botched renditions of beautiful classical songs for the sake of profits.

This, is, however, not the first time Bollywood has produced reboots of NFAK songs. His other Qawwali, ‘Sanu Ik Pal Chain’ has been reproduced twice at least. Qawwalis like Mere Rashke Qamar, ‘Nit Khair Manga’, ‘Dam Mast Qalandar’ are some of the latest instances of renditions of NFAK’s famous qawwalis.
