Nigar Johar has become the first-ever Female Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical College on Friday. In a break of protocol, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa pinned the badges on the uniform of Nigar Johar.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in its official release informed that the army chief visited the AMC and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha.
“[The] COAS pinned the badges of rank to formally install Lieutenant General Nigar Johar as first-ever female general to be appointed as Colonel Commandant of AMC,” it added.
Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa appreciated the contributions of the AMC in his speech.

“AMC has always answered the call of duty during natural calamities, both inland and abroad. Our doctors and paramedic staff have been frontline warriors against Covid-19 and displaying exemplary commitment and resolve for safety and well-being of the people of Pakistan,” the COAS was quoted as saying.

He took pride in the installation of the three-star female general officer of the Pakistan Army as Colonel Commandant of the reputed Army Medical College. Gen Bajwa said that it was a matter of immense pride for Pakistan Army and the country.
Gen Qamar, as per the military’s media wing, said, “Keeping pace with rapid advancements in medical science is imperative for the doctors and paramedics to keep themselves at par with modern militaries and best global practices in healthcare.”
First female army officer to become Lt. General
Last year, Major General Nigar Johar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General. She is the first female army officer promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General. She has also been appointed as the first female General Surgeon of Pakistan. Lt. Gen Nigar Gohar is currently serving at the Commandant Military Hospital, Rawalpindi.
The Inter-Services Public Relations informed about her promotion in a statement released on Tuesday. According to ISPR, she is the first female Lieutenant general of the Pakistan Army. She hails from the PanjPir area of Swabi district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Lt Gen Nigar Johar is the niece of Major (R) Mohammad Amir who is a retired army officer from Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI. Her father, Colonel Qadir, also served ISI. Her parents died in a road accident 30 years ago.

Johar is the third woman in the history of the Pakistan Army to have reached the rank of major general. She belongs to the Army Medical Corps. The other two major generals, Shahida Badsha and Shahida Malik also belong to the Army Medical Corps.
