Nestle, the world’s largest food and beverage company has launched yet another innovative consumer product in Pakistan – Purina pet food!
Nestle has its roots in Pakistan since 1988. Known especially for its water and milk products in the country; in the latter product, it milk operations cover more than 170,000 farmers. Over the years, Nestle Pakistan has ventured into confectionaries and cereals and now it has launched Pet Food “Purina” as part of a Nestle Pakistan product launch.
The company offers a wide portfolio of products and services for people and their pets. It has more than 2000 brands include local favorites like NESTLÉ MILKPAK, NESTLÉ PURE LIFE and NESTLÉ FRUITA VITALS.
On 18th February 2018, Nestle Pakistan collaborated with the Labrador Retriever Club of Pakistan, one of the most prominent dog clubs in the country, to kick-start its product named NESTLÉ PURINA. This marks the first time ever that an internationally renowned premium pet food brand will be launched in Pakistan. NESTLÉ PURINA has been in international pet food market for over 80 years.
“Previously, consumers and distributors had to import pet food from all over the world which was a costly process and it was usually through a grey channel”, Mr. Jehangir, owner of a Pet food business in Islamabad spoke to GVS. “Purina is a globally recognized franchise and the variety it offers…I think it would prove a game changer for the market.”

Commenting on the size of the pet foods market, Mr. Jahangir said that the trend is exponentially on the rise “People have become aware. They’re learning about pet care, different kinds of foods and their composition. A testimony to the fact is that up until a few years ago, there used to be 4-5 dog shows nationwide. Now, there are 15-20 dog shows nationwide every year. Plus, there are a lot of pet-oriented associations forming which is another good sign”.
To mark the launch of the brand, a Dog Show was held at the Rafi Cricket Stadium which was judged by the renowned dog breeder Tabtah Buckley Bettis, who traveled to Pakistan all the way from the United States of America, particularly to be part of the guests’ panel. Tabatha has judged in many countries including Australia, USA, Canada, Ireland, Brazil, Chile, New Zealand and Indonesia.
The book was a compilation of timeline photographs titled “from grass to glass”.

Nestle Purina offers a wide range of products. Canine treats include the dry dog food, wet dog food and dog treats. The Purina website allows consumers to find precise products for their specific type of dog. For cats, there are wet, dry and treat categories with an addition of litter. The website also has a comprehensive blog including informative articles on different types of animal nutrition.

On January 31st, Nestle Pakistan also launched a book to raise awareness on milk hygiene. The book narrated a story of milk in the country titled ‘Drop of the Divine: A Story of Milk in Pakistan’ and the book-launch was followed by a photographic exhibition that was inaugurated by the Ambassador of Switzerland to Pakistan Thomas Kolly in an impressive ceremony held at Alhamra.
