NZ terror attack: PM Khan calls it ‘Islamophobic’

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday has condemned the horrific New Zealand terrorist attack and has said in a tweet that terrorism has no religion. In his subtweet, he blamed the extremist mindset Islamophobia against Muslim as the reason for this heinous crime. He also extended prayers for the victims.

Earlier in the morning, a gunman opened fire on Muslim worshippers in two mosques in, Christchurch New Zealand. An unfortunate act of terrorism has resulted in multiple fatalities. The authorities condemning the incident has called it a ‘darkest hour’ for New Zealand.

Approximately, 40 people killed and at least 20 people have been reportedly injured in the incident. The shootings occurred in Masjid al Noor at Deans Avenue and Linwood Masjid in Linwood. The Police have refrained from discussing the motivations behind the incident, stating that the investigations are underway and would be too early to ascertain the exact reasons.

Twitter has been stormed with messages of condemnation and condolences from around the world. Muslims across the globe have expressed anger over the atrocious killing and have labelled the incident a consequence of extreme racism.

Several federal ministers including Dr. Shireen Mazari, Chaudhry Fawad Hussain also condemned the attack on mosques in the masjid.

People from all walks of life in Pakistan have expressed sorrow over the incident.

Other world leaders like Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned the incident and called it a deplorable act of racism and Islamophobia.

Kashmiri Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq also condemned the attack.

The Foreign Office of Pakistan has issued an official statement condemning the attack on the Islamic community in New Zealand.
