Oman has unveiled a new visa policy that offers a complimentary 10-day visit visa to passengers and crew members aboard cruise ships. This initiative, aimed at making travel more accessible and appealing to international visitors, marks a significant step in the Sultanate’s efforts to boost tourism and strengthen its presence in the global market.
New Visa Regulations to Attract Tourists
The new policy was announced under Decision No. 132/2024 by Lieutenant General Hassan bin Mohsen Al Shuraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs. It introduces amendments to the Executive Regulations of the Foreigners’ Residence Law, providing a 10-day visa, free of charge, for cruise ship passengers and crew members visiting Oman for tourism purposes. The visa, available upon request from the cruise ship agent, must be used within 30 days of issuance.

Additionally, the policy offers a one-month visa for those wishing to extend their stay, under similar conditions. Both visas aim to streamline the entry process, making it easier for tourists to explore the unique cultural and natural attractions Oman has to offer.
Boosting Oman’s Tourism Industry
This policy shift is part of Oman’s broader strategy to grow its tourism sector by simplifying entry procedures and offering more flexible options for travelers. By providing a free 10-day visa and a one-month extension, Oman hopes to attract more visitors from around the world, particularly from the growing cruise tourism market.
Lieutenant General Al Shuraiqi stated, “This new policy is intended to facilitate the entry of cruise ship visitors, making it easier for them to explore Oman.” The move aligns with Oman’s vision to position itself as a leading destination for experiential travel, leveraging its rich history, diverse landscapes, and warm hospitality.

These include a tourist visa for stays up to 30 days, a business visa valid for up to 90 days, and a family visit visa for relatives of Omani residents. These options provide flexibility for tourists, business professionals, and families visiting the Sultanate.
