Shahid Raza, Assistant-Editor, Strategic Affairs, Global Village Space, (GVS) was interviewed by Russian Radio, Sputnik, on the current situation in Afghanistan. Shahid Raza argued that the real strategic rationale behind US presence in Afghanistan is to keep a constant check on rising China and to exploit Russia’s insecurities in its soft underbelly i.e Central Asia. Terrorism and instability, he argued, are the excuses United State is using to justify its continued military presence in the region.
Pakistan, Iran, Russia and China must seriously work towards creating a “Quadrilateral Forum” and encourage both the Afghan government and Taliban to negotiate an amiable settlement
He iterated that unrest in Afghanistan is thus indirectly serving US interests since it provides it with an excuse to stay in the country indefinitely. He also voiced his concerns on India’s role in Afghanistan since according to him, India’s principal goal is to use its presence, in the Afghan theatre, to wage a hybrid war against Pakistan.

Shahid Raza argues that Pakistan, Iran, Russia and China must seriously work towards creating a “Quadrilateral Forum” and encourage both the Afghan government and Taliban to negotiate an amiable settlement which is the only way to ensure peace in the country and the region. Continued US presence is only a recipe for continuous warfare and instability.
