Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar: Pak Conducts Air Strikes on Iran

Pakistan responds to Iranian airspace violation with targeted air strikes on terrorist hideouts, escalating tensions and prompting diplomatic fallout.

Pakistan launched early morning air strikes on terrorist hideouts in Iran’s Siestan-o-Balochistan province in response to Tehran’s airspace violation. The Foreign Office (FO) confirmed the unprecedented action, revealing that a series of coordinated precision military strikes, codenamed ‘Marg Bar Sarmachar,’ targeted and eliminated terrorists.

In a swift response to Iran’s missile and drone strikes on Pakistani soil, Pakistan recalled its ambassador from Iran and expelled Tehran’s envoy, marking the first instance of such a drastic diplomatic move between the two nations. This move underlines the heightened tensions triggered by Iran’s attacks and showcases the gravity of the situation.

The FO emphasized that over several years of engagements with Iran, Pakistan consistently expressed serious concerns about safe havens for Pakistani-origin terrorists, known as Sarmachars, within Iran’s ungoverned spaces. Citing a lack of action on these concerns, Pakistan conducted the air strikes based on credible intelligence of impending large-scale terrorist activities by these groups. The operation symbolizes Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to protecting its national security.

In the wake of the air strikes, Pakistan downgraded its diplomatic relations with Iran, recalling ambassadors and warning of potential serious consequences. The violation of Pakistan’s airspace and the subsequent military response raised concerns about regional stability, especially amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Analysts suggest the possibility of Pakistan aligning strategically with Iran’s rivals as a countermeasure.
