Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus ‘Padmaavat,’ which was mired in controversy for reportedly distorting facts of Rajputs and the Queen of Chittor, Rani Padmini, finally made its way to the theaters in January 2018 – initially scheduled for release on December 1.
The film has undergone various obstacles ever since its announcement. However, soon after its release, the magnum opus did not cease to garner appreciations from the audience as well as the critics.
The Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone, and Shahid Kapoor starred movie turned out to be a blockbuster crossing the 300 crore mark at the box office.

Sanjay Leela Bhansali reportedly professed that there was a lot of pain behind the success. According to him, there was a time when the team thought that the film won’t release at all. But with God’s grace, they managed to miraculously cross every hurdle. The film even sparked a nationwide protest in India.
However, after the release of the film, the audience hailed the film and made it a blockbuster. Also, the fringe elements took back their protests saying it glorifies the Rajputs and the Queen.
It is usually observed that movies with huge controversies often make more business.
Recently, the lead actress Deepika Padukone, who played the role of the brave queen, shared a post and expressed her happiness on the film being selected at the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival. This festival is one of the largest film festivals in East Asia, which was initiated in 1993. It is indeed a great honor and success for a film’s cast and crew as the film has been elected for such a prestigious awards.

The official Instagram handle of ‘Padmaavat’ shared that the movie has been selected in the 21st Shanghai International Festival (SIFF) as well. The caption stated “the world continues to shower their love on #Padmaavat. We’re selected in the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival”
This just goes on to prove that good work is always appreciated and pays off and ‘Padmaavat’ is a live example of it.
The film also starred Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh as male leads, making the movie the third collarboration of the trio – Ranveer, Deepika and Shahid – as they had worked together before in ‘Goliyan ki Rasleela Ram-Leela’ and “Bajirao Mastani.’ The have certainly proved that when working together, their film is bound to be a blockbuster.
On the work front, Deepika will be next seen on Vishal Bhardwaj’s film on Sapna Didi. The actress will reunite with her ‘Piku’ co-star Irrfan Khan for this film.
