Pakistan faces backlash after early exit from ICC Champions Trophy

Pakistan Cricket Team Faces Harsh Criticism After Early Exit from ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Former cricketers and Pakistan cricket fans slammed the team after their disappointing exit from the ICC Champions Trophy.

Pakistan lost their all-important group matches against New Zealand and India. New Zealand had beat Pakistan by 60 runs last week in the opening match of the tournament at Karachi’s National Stadium on 19th February.

Pakistan, next, played India in Abu Dhabi on Sunday on February 23rd. Pakistan after winning the toss opted to bat first but Pakistan’s batting line-up collapsed as green shirts could only set the score of 241 for India.

India chased it comfortably in 42 overs at the loss of four wickets.

Following the defeat, Pakistan again got stuck in scenarios, heavily depending on Bangladesh to defeat New Zealand with big margin.

However, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh in a group match, confirming the early elimination of Pakistan from the tournament it is hosting on its home soil.

Disgruntled fans and former cricketers are expressing dismay over the abysmal and poor performance of the team in the tournament.

Fans slammed Chairman PCB Mohsin Naqvi, the selection committee, players, and the coaching staff for the team’s continuous downfall.

The key players including skipper Muhammad Rizwan, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Haris Rauf, and Babar Azam are receiving fierce criticism on social media.

Cricket experts are questioning the selection of the players in the team and their merit.

Fans are demanding the removal of head coach Aqib Javed from the post. Muhammad Rizwan accepted the poor performance of the team and the defeat of the team in the tournament.

However, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has not responded to the backlash or the poor performance of the team.

Pakistan will play its next group match against Bangladesh on Thursday. With India in the semi-finals, Pakistan will not be hosting one of the two semi-finals, as it will be played in UAE.
