Pakistan to host ICC Champions Trophy in 2025

Chairman Pakistan Cricket Board Ramiz Raja has expressed his joy on the news. In his Twitter statement, he said: “It’s a matter of great pride and delight that Pakistan will be hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025."

Pakistan to host ICC Champions Trophy in 2025. The announcement came by International Cricket Council on Tuesday. Pakistan will host a major cricket event after more than two decades.

The country had last co-hosted the global cricket tournament Men’s Cricket World Cup alongside India and Sri Lanka in 1996. The final was played in Lahore with Sri Lanka claiming the title.

In his Twitter statement, he said: “It’s a matter of great pride and delight that Pakistan will be hosting ICC Champions Trophy 2025. This great news will surely excite millions of Pakistani fans, ex-pats, and world fans to see great teams and players in action and will allow the world to sample our hospitality.”

ICC announced the list of global cricket tournaments for the decade on Tuesday. Other countries like USA and Namibia are also included in the list of hosting events. USA and West Indies will co-host ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Meanwhile, after Pakistan, India will host the next Champions Trophy in 2029.

Earlier, the ICC Champions Trophy was scheduled to be played in Pakistan in 2009, however, it was canceled due to security reasons following the attack on the Sri Lankan cricket team. England, New Zealand, and Australia had refused to tour Pakistan.

Releasing the list today, ICC said:  “The Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 will go somewhere it has never been before, with the USA hosting the event alongside the West Indies, which staged the tournament in 2010.”

Meanwhile, Pakistan is making hard efforts for the return of international cricket in Pakistan. England, New Zealand, and Australia have confirmed to tour Pakistan next year after the first two had abruptly canceled their tour to Pakistan in August this year.

On the other hand, Pakistan reached the semifinals of the T20 Men’s World Cup but lost the match against Australia.
