Pakistani-British girl, 25, killed reportedly after refusing to marry

A woman in Lahore was found dead in her home. According to official reports, she was killed by her male friends after she refused to marry them.

Pakistani-British girl, Marya Zulfikar, was found dead at her residence in Lahore’s DHA. Marya, 25, was killed allegedly after refusing to marry a man.

Police claim she was found dead in her home and have registered the case against her two male friends. The deceased woman arrived in Pakistan from the UK some two months back and shared the upper portion of the rented house with a friend, who was living in an adjoining room.

The initial Post-Mortem report says that she received two bullets on her arm and neck. Bruises were also found on her right hand and left foot.

Her uncle, Muhammad Nazeer, had filed the complaint and alleged that the two men, Zahir Jadoon and Saad Ameer Butt both were forcing her to marry them and were threatening her with “dire consequences”. Nazeer said that she had told him that she feared for her life as they both were threatening her.

According to the FIR, the girl had refused to marry either of them. He added that she told him about the matter a few days ago when she visited him at his residence. He asked the girl to let her know if something happens. He added that he intended to talk to the two men to make them understand.

The complainant asserted that he received the phone call from the girl’s father that she has been shot down after which he rushed to her residence and found her body. She was bleeding from her neck, the FIR said.

He added that Saad and Zahir killed the girl between 4 am-5 am along with their two accomplices after careful planning.

Station House Officer Qasim, while talking to Independent Urdu, said that “The woman had a bullet wound to the shoulder, but the exact cause of death will be known after her autopsy and forensic report, whether the death was due to a gunshot wound or whether her throat was strangled.”

Police have detained the two men for questioning.
