Pakistani fans school Esra Bilgic, ‘Halime’ of Ertugrul for western clothing

Perhaps, fans expected Esra Bilgic to be living the same traditional life she played in Dirilis Ertgurul. The disgruntled fans went on to say that they have started hating her after seeing her pictures.

Pakistani fans of Dirilis Ertugrul have started moral policing Turkish actors Esra Bilgic (Halime Sultan) and Engin Altan Duzyatan (Ertugrul) on Instagram for following western culture in real life.

Pakistani fans- inspired by the exquisite representation of Muslim characters played by these actors on screen- rushed to their social media accounts. But the western lifestyle of Turkish actor disappointed Pakistani fans.

Pakistani fans bashed Turkish actors

Pakistani fans swarmed the Instagram accounts of Esra Bilgic with rude and unpleasant comments. They blasted her for not emulating the traditional Halime Sultan in real life. They commented she played the role of a noble and modest woman in the serial. Then she should emulate that character in real life too. Some asked the Turkish government to take action against Esra Bilgic for disrespecting ‘Halime Sultan’.

However, not only Esra Bilgic but Pakistani social media users even bashed Engin Altan Duzyatan for leading a life opposite to what he played on screen as Ertugrul. A Pakistani fan schooled Engin Altan Duzyatan for keeping pet dogs in the home.

But, fans also recalled how Esra Bilgic called out Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra for promoting war while being a UN Goodwill ambassador.

Her comments came after Priyanka Chopra snubbed a Pakistani girl called her out for war-mongering and hailing India’s uncalled aggression towards Pakistan.

Esra Bilgic reminded Priyanka Chopra of the significance of her role as a peace ambassador and how her comments supporting war between India and Pakistan could endanger the lives of many children. Esra admonished Priyanka Chopra for disrespecting the Pakistani girl who asked a simple question.

“Being patriotic doesn’t mean you should encourage war. You shouldn’t belong in a conversation concerning war as a UN goodwill ambassador. You were so disrespectful against a woman who just asked you a question about a statement that you shared with millions of people on your Twitter account,” wrote Esra.

At BeautyCon, Pakistani-American girl Ayesha Malik had called out Priyanka Chopra for war-mongering. Priyanka Chopra had tweeted Jai Hind after India struck Balakot Pakistan. The incident that also leads to the arrest of Indian wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. Also, Bollywood actress applauded the Indian Air Force violating Pakistani airspace and dropping bombs when the two nations were already on the brink of war.

Background of Esra Bilgic

Esra Bilgiç is a Turkish actress and model. She portrayed Halime Hatun in the historical adventure television series Diriliş: Ertuğrul from 2014 to 2018. Moreover, she is currently the leading actress in the crime drama series Ramo. Esra also appeared in Bir Umut Yeter. In 2019, Bilgiç was asked to play a leading role in the film Adaniş Kutsal Kavga.

She studied International Relations at Bilkent University, Ankara. She married Turkish footballer, Gokhan Tore on 21 October 2017. But the marriages lasted only two years. As the couple divorced on 17 June 2019.

Despite, unpleasant comments from a few Pakistanis, she has a growing fan base in Pakistan. She is cheered for her flawless performance as Halime Sultan in Dirilis Ertugrul.
