Renowned Pakistani journalist Imran Riaz has left Pakistan and arrived in the United Kingdom, sources confirmed on Wednesday. Allegedly, Riaz disguised himself as a Baloch to evade authorities before successfully making his way out of the country.
Imran Riaz, a vocal critic of the establishment and a prominent media personality, has faced multiple arrests and legal challenges in recent years. His departure comes after months of enforced disappearance, alleged mistreatment, and increasing pressure on independent journalism in Pakistan.

In a statement shared on social media following his arrival in the UK, Riaz highlighted his ordeal, emphasizing his unwavering commitment to his principles. “I have endured the worst torture and imprisonment, faced numerous arrests and legal cases, and was even prevented from performing Hajj. Yet, my faith has given me patience. I have some important responsibilities, and I will return soon, Insha Allah,” he stated.
His sudden departure has sparked heated discussions about press freedom in Pakistan, where journalists frequently face intimidation, legal persecution, and even abduction for their reporting. Rights organizations have long raised concerns about the deteriorating conditions for press freedom in the country.

While supporters of Riaz view his escape as a testament to the dangers journalists face in Pakistan, critics argue that he may have sought asylum to avoid legal repercussions.
Authorities in Pakistan have yet to comment on reports of his escape. Meanwhile, press freedom advocates and international watchdogs are closely monitoring the situation, emphasizing the urgent need for safeguarding journalists and upholding freedom of speech in Pakistan.
