Pakistan’s first Lieutenant General, Nigar Johar, has been invited as chief guest for the APNNA Spring meeting held in Oklahoma, USA. She has been on an official trip to the USA from 24th to 27th March.
The Surgeon General was the keynote speaker in the “Social Forum on Women empowerment”, which was attended by prominent members of the Pakistani-American community. During her visit to the USA, she also visited Washington DC and met the Pakistani ambassador, Masood Khan.
She was hailed as the role model for her services at the four-day spring meeting of the Association of Physicians of Pakistani Descent of North America. General Nigar Johar is the Director-General of Medical Services of the Pakistan Army. Her program included speaking engagements, public awareness walks, focused meetings, and plenary sessions as well as the closing gala. During her session, she encouraged many young men and women to join the profession and Pakistan Army. Her visit also offered a unique opportunity for professional engagement and also to advance the soft image of Pakistan.
Surgeon General spoke on women’s empowerment in the session attended by the Pakistani community. Her visit and interactions with the doctors in the USA are expected to lead to future collaborations in the field of medicine and exchange of doctors.

First-ever female general to be appointed as Colonel Commandant of AMC
In November, Nigar Johar had become the first-ever Female Colonel Commandant of the Army Medical College. In a break of protocol, Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa had pinned the badges on the uniform of Nigar Johar.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) in its official release informed that the army chief visited the AMC and laid a floral wreath at the Yadgar-e-Shuhada and offered Fateha.
“[The] COAS pinned the badges of rank to formally install Lieutenant General Nigar Johar as first-ever female general to be appointed as Colonel Commandant of AMC,” it added.
In 2020, Major General Nigar Johar was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General. She is the first female army officer promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General. She has also been appointed as the first female General Surgeon of Pakistan. Lt. Gen Nigar Gohar is currently serving at the Commandant Military Hospital, Rawalpindi.
