Parvez Elahi moves SC against Dost Mazari’s letter

In the plea filed with the SC, Parvez Elahi accused Dost Mazari of ruining peace through the letter and said that it was written with bad intent.

PML-Q leader and Punjab Speaker Parvez Elahi has approached the Supreme Court (SC) against Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari who recently wrote a letter seeking security cover from the provincial chief secretary and the inspector general of police for the peaceful election of the Punjab Chief Minister.

According to the details, in the plea filed with the SC, Parvez Elahi accused Dost Mazari of ruining peace through the letter and said that it was written with bad intent. He asked the apex court to stop the entry of IG Punjab inside the assembly.

Important to note that Parvez Elahi’s plea also made Hamza Shahbaz, deputy speaker, and IG Punjab and chief secretary respondent in the case.

Currently, all eyes are on the Punjab Chief Minister’s election scheduled for Friday (today) at 4:00 pm. The Punjab CM election will not only elect the chief executive of the country’s biggest province but will also determine future politics. The competition is between Hamza Shehbaz, the son of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi, who is the nominee of PTI Chairman Imran Khan.

As is typical with Pakistani politics, events leading to a major political event are marked with controversies. Keeping this in mind, last night, Dost Mazari’s letter too triggered a controversy in Pakistan.

Dost Mazari’s letter

Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari – who had once been the target of assault at the hands of PTI MPAs – demanded that police must be deployed not only outside the assembly building but also in the house as part of foolproof security measures.

He alleged in the letter that some elements were trying to obstruct the polling process and the assembly security would be unable to control the situation. In such a situation lives of the lawmakers and the staff would be in danger.

Needless to say, the letter received a lot of criticism due to the fact that it was written ahead of the Punjab CM election but carried the date of the election, allegedly setting a bad precedent. PTI leaders slammed the Punjab Deputy Speaker for the letter.

“Caught in the act! PML-N planning to disrupt voting for CM Punjab. Dost prepares a letter for 22 July seeking police security for the provincial assembly because some elements “are” causing trouble and threat to his life! Psychic! Like Donald Lu knowing about VoNC a day before it is tabled!” PTI leader Shireen Mazari tweeted.

Similarly, PTI’s Dr. Shahbaz Gill also called out Dost Mazari for talking about violence before the election.

“Dost Mazari’s self-made false drama leaked yesterday. Just see how much of a liar he is, he is a true follower of Maryam Baji. Yesterday’s meeting and today the false imagery started. This goes beyond the Calibre font. The person told the story of tomorrow today,” Dr. Shahbaz Gill tweeted.
