Pattoki: Wedding event goes on with corpse in venue

There has been immense social media rage on the incident. Netizens decried the apathetic, vile, and inhumane behavior of the wedding guests towards the poor seller. Twitter users argued that the law and order should have taken its course on the incident.

A disturbing video of a wedding event going on with a corpse in the venue in Pattoki has gone viral on social media on Monday.

A Twitter user had shared a video from a wedding event in Pattoki where the event continued in full swing with a corpse at a venue. According to the user, the wedding guests killed the poor man, named Arshad Sultan, on the basis of suspicion. Following his death, instead of calling the police or taking him for burial, the guests enjoyed the food while the corpse of the man lay on the side and was left unattended in the wedding hall.

The deceased man was accused of pickpocketing when he was selling papad outside the venue. Five to six men dragged him inside the venue and beat him where he succumbed to his injuries, states the First Information Report.

The video went viral on Twitter that garnered a massive outcry from the public regarding the apathy and cruelty of the wedding guests. The Kasur police took notice of the incident and arrested 12 people including the wedding hall manager. Punjab IG also sought a report from Sheikhupura RPO on the incident.

Twitter user says the tragic incident calls for the introspection of the society and a shameful fall in the moral values and standards.

Renowned journalist, Rauf Klasra also expressed anguish on the display of lack of morals and empathy shown by the people. “You may have seen some very painful scenes in life, but you have not seen more than that. How can all these savages kill a human being and sit at a distance and eat peacefully as if nothing has happened? The heart is full of sorrow. Who are these people who are living as a burden on this earth? shame on all of them,” said Rauf Klasra in his tweet. Others Twitter users also voiced their grief and sorrow on the incident.
