Pakistan’s cricket board has taken a precautionary step by adding Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan to their squad as backup bowlers. This decision came after star pacers Haris Rauf and Naseem Shah sustained minor injuries during a match against India.
Haris Rauf was ruled out of the game against India due to discomfort in his oblique muscle, as revealed by Pakistan’s bowling coach, Morne Morkel. A scan showed inflammation, prompting the team to take a cautious approach to protect his fitness for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
Similarly, Naseem Shah did not participate in the same match due to a minor finger injury. Although these injuries are not considered serious, both Haris and Naseem will remain under the observation of the team’s medical panel throughout the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.
To ensure that Pakistan’s pace attack remains strong, Shahnawaz Dahani and Zaman Khan have been called up as backup options. However, the team management will only seek a replacement from the Asian Cricket Council technical committee if either Haris or Naseem is unable to play for the next seven days.
