PCB signs three-year deal with India’s Sony Pictures Network

The Indian broadcasting network will show all of Pakistan’s home international games and Pakistan Super League in the Indian subcontinent.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has signed a three-year broadcasting deal with India’s Sony Picture Network. The Indian broadcasting network will show all of Pakistan’s home and international games, as well as the Pakistan Super League in the Indian subcontinent.

Pakistan Super League is set to begin on February 20, 2021, with the opening match between Karachi Kings and Quetta Gladiators. Pakistan Sports Board’s Chief Executive Wasim Khan said through this deal cricket fans in the Indian subcontinent would also enjoy Pakistan’s cricket.

“The PCB welcomes Sony Pictures Networks India to its list of elite broadcasters who will have rights to Pakistan’s bilateral series and PSL 2021-23. Through this partnership, cricket fans in South Asia will be able to follow and enjoy high-quality cricket action in Pakistan across all formats featuring some of the finest modern-day stars,” he said in a statement.

“Sony Pictures Networks India (SPN) has acquired the broadcast rights of the Pakistan Cricket Board for a tenure of three years. SPN will air all of Pakistan’s home international games along with the Pakistan Super League. With the acquisition of PCB rights, Sony Pictures Networks India has broadcast rights to a total of five international cricket boards,” said Rajesh Kaul, the Chief Revenue Officer of Distribution and Head – Sports Business, Sony Pictures Network India.

The broadcast deal is significant in terms of the political instability between the two countries. Back in 2019, the broadcast of Pakistan Super Leagues matches in India had stopped following the Pulwama attack.

Other teams of West Indies, New Zealand, and England are expected to visit the country this year. Also, PCB is also in talks with Australia to arrange their visit to the country soon after 1998.
