PM Khan appoints federal ministers on key positions of PTI

PM Khan expressed anger over the distribution of party tickets among family members. Fawad Chaudhry also revealed that he received complaints that the tickets for the recently held LG polls in the province were distributed among families of party members.

PM Khan decides to dissolve the organizational structure of PTI across Pakistan. The decision comes owing to the huge set back in the KPK local body elections.

According to Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Chairman PTI Imran Khan announced reorganization of the party. PM Khan appointed Asad Umar as General Secretary of the party. While Parvez Khattak, Ali Zaidi, Qasim Suri, Shafqat Mehmood and Khusro Bakhtiar became provincial presidents of KP, Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab and South Punjab respectively. Amir Mehmood Kiyani received the position of Additional Secretary of PTI.

Earlier, PM Khan formed a 21-member Supreme Committee to devise a political strategy for the upcoming local polls. Since PM Khan vowed to personally oversee the PTI’s strategy for the local body polls, PM Khan chaired the meeting.

The first meeting took place today in Islamabad. Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar, Punjab Governor Muhammad Sarwar, local government minister Mehmood-ur-Rasheed, Punjab Assembly speaker Asad Qaiser, KP CM Mehmood Khan, and federal ministers including Fawad Chaudhry, Hammad Azhar, and Shafqat Mehmood attended the meeting.

Addressing a press conference after the meeting, Federal Minister Fawad Chaudhry said PM Khan expressed anger over the distribution of party tickets among family members. He received complaints that the tickets for the recently held LG polls in the province were distributed among families of party members.

“Since party tickets were distributed on the basis of nepotism as against the principles of fairness and merit, Prime minister Imran Khan is very upset,” said Fawad. He added that in light of the situation, PM Khan decided to dissolve PTI’s organizational structure across Pakistan.

Formation of new committees

PM Khan directed the 21-member Supreme Committee to propose a new structure for the party’s organisations. Moreover, he also formed another committee to oversee the process of awarding party tickets. Taking strict action, PM Khan stripped the local leadership of their authority to award tickets to relatives or family members.

“PTI does not believe in dynastic politics. PM Imran never lets his personal relations affect his mission,” Fawad Chaudhry noted.

Important to note, JUI-F emerged victorious in the recent KP elections despite the region being PTI’s stronghold. As per public opinion, PTI lost due to the weak performance of MNAs and MPAs. As a result, KPK’s population moved towards other political parties. However, in PM Khan’s opinion, the party lost due to the wrong candidate selection.

“PTI made mistakes in 1st phase of KP LG elections & paid the price. Wrong candidate selection was a major cause,” PM Khan said. On another note, he did express hope that PTI will come out stronger in the next elections.

“From now on I will personally be overseeing PTI’s LG election strategy in 2nd phase of KP LG elections & LG elections across Pak. InshaAllah PTI will come out stronger,” he further added.
