PM Shehbaz slams “PTI’s smear campaign” against COAS Asim

"PTI's disgusting smear campaign against Chief of the Army Staff General Asim Munir at the behest of Imran Niazi is deserving of the strongest condemnation," PM Shehbaz said on Twitter.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned ” PTI’s disgusting smear campaign” against the Pakistan Army and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Asim Munir abroad and called on overseas Pakistanis to raise their voices against it.

In a statement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said “toxic politics” was being spread through overseas Pakistanis. He urged overseas Pakistanis to raise their voices against the “foreign-funded campaign” and not become a part of such conspiracies.

PM Shehbaz also stated that PTI Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan was dragging state institutions and their heads into his dirty politics, which was against the Constitution.

“PTI’s disgusting smear campaign against Chief of the Army Staff General Asim Munir at the behest of Imran Niazi is deserving of the strongest condemnation,” PM Shehbaz later said on Twitter.

“This man Niazi is stooping to unprecedented lows in his desperation for power and going to the extent of damaging the country and undermining our armed forces and their leadership,” he further added.

Sunday, hundreds of Pakistans living in the United States of America gathered outside the White House to demand an end to the government’s actions against Imran Khan. Protests also took place in different parts of America and also in the UK.

Overseas Pakistanis protesting against the PDM government also raised slogans against COAS Asim Munir while condemning the human rights violations in Pakistan.

Interestingly, soon after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s statement, PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry said that remarks were solely aimed at creating a divide between the people and the army so that the two are “at war” and the Pakistan Democratic Movement can “continue its looting”.

“The purpose of this statement is only to create distance between the people and the army so that the people and the army are at war and PDM can continue looting under this guise. Help the Election Commission and make the environment of Pakistan better,” Fawad Chaudhry said.
