PML-N reacts to Broadsheet CEO’s apology to Nawaz Sharif

As Pakistan's political heat intensifies over the no-confidence motion, Kaveh Moussavi, CEO of Broadsheet, said that during the investigations against Nawaz Sharif, they found no evidence of corruption. Regarding this, PML-N leaders said the whole edifice of lies and character assassination has been demolished.

PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif defends older brother Nawaz Sharif as Broadsheet CEO’s statement goes viral on social media. Taking to Twitter, the former Chief Minister of Punjab said the CEO’s revelations expose the “witch-hunt”.

Earlier, Kaveh Moussavi, CEO of Broadsheet, an asset recovery firm, tendered an apology to former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for allegations of corruption. He made the statements in a video interview with Geo News and accused the National Accountability of Bureau (NAB) of “witch-hunt.”

Needless to say, PML-N is considering the apology a major win as it supposedly debases corruption allegations against Nawaz Sharif.

Regarding this, Shehbaz Sharif said the whole edifice of lies and character assassination has been demolished. He also said corruption allegations came to keep Nawaz Sharif out of public life.

“Broadsheet CEO’s revelations expose politically inspired witch-hunt of Nawaz Sharif & family in the name of so-called accountability. Corruption allegations were made to keep him out of public life. Now the whole edifice of lies, deceit & character assassination stands demolished,” the PML-N leader tweeted.

Similarly, PML-N leader and former finance minister Ishaq Dar expressed that truth prevails.

“Truth prevails and political witch-hunt exposed; after wasting billions of rupees of taxpayers money and 22years of media trial, not a single rupee corruption found. The Broadsheet CEO publicly tenders apology to Mian Nawaz Sharif & family,” Ishaq Dar tweeted.

Meanwhile, PML-N Spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb said,”Even a thousand veils of lies and slander cannot hide the truth”.

Broadsheet CEO’s apology

As Pakistan’s political heat intensifies over the no-confidence motion, Kaveh Moussavi’s interview goes viral. In a recent interview, Kaveh Moussavi said that during the investigations they found no evidence of corruption or any unexplained wealth anywhere in the world.

“We found a lot of plundered wealth but not “one rupee” relating to Mr. Nawaz Sharif or any member of his family,” Moussavi said. He also said that he has no doubt NAB made cases against Nawaz Sharif on political grounds.

“I have no hesitation in issuing an apology to the former prime minister Nawaz Sharif,” he said while slamming NAB.

“Mr. Sharif you clearly were the victim of a massive organised scandalous witch-hunt. There’s no question about that. When facts change, I change my views,” he further added.

To clarify, in 2000, General Pervez Musharraf’s government hired Broadsheet LLC to recover assets that political rivals allegedly stole, including Nawaz Sharif. Furthermore, Kaveh Moussavi earlier claimed to have evidence of corruption against Nawaz Sharif. He also accused the Sharif family of approaching him with a bribe. However, now the Broadsheet CEO takes back his statement.

Interesting timings?

Broadsheet CEO’s apology to Nawaz Sharif comes at an interesting time. Currently, the Opposition is gearing up to oust PM Khan. Moreover, reports emerged that Nawaz Sharif will return to Pakistan from London in early May. Even the PML-N camp has confirmed the news.

PML-N leader and former governor of Sindh Muhammad Zubair said in a statement that Nawaz Sharif will return after the success of the no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Similarly, Punjab PML-N President Rana Sanaullah also replied in ‘yes’ when asked about former prime minister Nawaz’s return to Pakistan in May this year. Nawaz Sharif left for London in 2019 on the basis of medical treatment. However, he has not returned since.
