Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said on Tuesday that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan, would make the country stable, both economically and politically.
Addressing the members of the business community at the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce (ICCI), the minister said that the people of Pakistan had found a political destination and with the grace of God; the country would attain progress under the leadership of PM Khan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has already made it clear in his maiden speech that accountability of corrupts across the country would be without any favors.
Mr. Chaudhry also said that the major challenge being faced by the PTI government was that of the economy, not politics. He also added that both Nawaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari had contested their last elections and their days in politics were over.
He said that the PTI government inherited a Pakistan, which was at the risk of default (in meeting international payments), facing a fiscal deficit and high inflation with the dollar at Rs. 128. Mr. Chaudhry criticizing the previous government stated that Rs7 billion was spent to artificially maintain the value of the US dollar at Rs100 and when that artificial support was taken off, the dollar price hiked to Rs128. However, he said that with the cooperation of friendly countries like China, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, the situation was getting better.

It is worth mentioning here that the prime minister Imran Khan recently lashed out at the previous governments for raising Pakistan’s debt from Rs6 trillion to Rs30 trillion in the last 10 years alone. As a matter of fact, previous governments have generally been focusing on the loans to run the country without clearly concentrating on generating economic activity in Pakistan.
Federal Minister also maintained that his government was determined to stop corruption and bring back the looted money, as these were two major issues of previous rulers. Mr. Chaudhary claimed that the PTI-led government would promote exports, discourage imports, and broaden tax net along with curbing the money laundering to stabilize the country’s economy.
