An educated parliament is perhaps what is the needed in Pakistan, so the public can be governed by intelligent laws, debated over by intelligent minds, rather than whimsical legislation brought forward to satisfy personal ambitions.
In 2018 elections Pakistan has seen a surge in educated candidates being awarded tickets to the three main parties. The highest number of educated aspirants taking part in general elections 2018 are from Tehrik-e-Insaf, second number are from PPP and ranking third is PML (N).
Out of the PTI aspirants, there are seven doctors, one Barrister, one Rtd. army officer and another 19 candidates have M.A. and Double M.A. The seven PTI doctors include, NA-1 Dr. Haider Ali Khan, NA 98 Dr. Afzal Dahandla, NA 106 Dr. Nisar Ahmad Butt, NA 125 Dr. Yasmeen Rashid, NA 139 Dr. Azeemuddin Lakhvi and NA 247 Dr. Arif Alvi.
The cry for an educated voter, has translated into educated candidates. This reflects a change in Party speculations that educated individuals are more likely to win them the election.
PPP candidates include 4 doctors, 1 Barrister and 1 Retired Army officer and 13 candidates are M.A. and Double Masters. Out of the PPP aspirants of National Assembly, four are doctors, one Rtd. Army Officer and nine hold are M.A. and double M.A degrees.

PPP’s doctor candidates include, NA 30 Dr. Arbab Alamgir, NA 45 Dr. Arif Hussain Toori, NA 227 Dr. Irfan Magsi and NA 271 Dr. Barkat Ali Baloch. Whereas, PML-N ranks third most educated party amongst the trio, partly because of party member drain and changing loyalties.
PML-N has awarded 4 doctors with tickets from NA 79, Dr. Nisar Ahmad, NA 88, Dr. Mukhtar Bharath, NA 91, Dr. Zulfikar Ali Bhatti and NA 247, Dr. Afnan. Highest number of educated aspirants in general elections are from PTI, PPP and PML(N).
