As per the initial investigation reports released by the police, it appears that Sindh Planning and Development Minister Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani shot and killed his wife and then himself at around 6:30 in the morning on 1st February. The authorities are treating the incident as a suicide based on preliminary findings.
The veteran politician was found dead on Thursday along with his wife Fariha Razak, at his residence in Defense Housing Society, Karachi.
Based on the initial reports after investigation from domestic help, the couple often used to quarrel and were in constant arguments since the last few days. The deceased minister used to live on the first floor of the house where the servants were not allowed to go unless required.
He was born in an influential political family of the region. During his long career as a politician, he served as an MNA and MPA. In his last tenure, he was elected provincial member assembly from PS-16 Jacobabad.
The guards at the residence confirmed that they heard the loud exchange of words followed by possible gunshots at 6:30 am. Though guards had informed the servants about the gunshots, they waited until 10:30 am for the minister to open the door. After which the son of the minister was called.
The door was forcibly opened. Bijarani’s body was lying on the sofa with a pistol resting on his legs, while Fariha Razak’s body was lying near the bathroom covered in blood with three gunshot wounds, one in the head and two on the abdomen.

Police have confirmed that the initial report of Forensic Science Lab confirmed that all the bullets were fired from the same pistol, which was in possession of Bijarani.
The evidence collected from the crime scene confirmed that same weapon was used in both the killings and that the senior politician had first killed his wife and then killed himself with the same weapon.

The press release issued by the office of the deputy inspector general of police south zone Karachi, on Friday says that bodies of the couple were found on the first floor of the house No. 36, Khayabae-Janbaz, Phase-5, DHA, Karachi. After receiving the information, Station House Officer PS Darakhsan immediately rushed to the spot, where the dead bodies of the couple were found.
The news of Bijarani’s death brought life to a stand still in his native town. A similar situation was observed in other parts of upper Sindh as well. A public holiday was declared in Jacobabad and Kandkot today after the funeral announcement.
Both the deceased were wearing nightdresses, and there was no sign of any struggle. The firearms caused the death of the couple. The crime scene was secured and was properly photographed. Investigators and forensic experts recovered three missed bullets, two live bullets and a 30 bore pistol from the crime scene. For the postmortem, the dead bodies were shifted to Jinnah Hospital.
Initially, police had taken all the domestic help and guards on duty in custody for investigation. To collect the evidence 6-individuals including two police guards and four domestic servants were taken into custody, which confirmed the altercation and ruckus between the couple that continued for a few days before the fatal shooting.

Funeral on Friday
Fariha was laid to rest today in Karachi, while, Bijarani’s funeral prayers were offered today in Kurrampur, Kashmore after Friday prayers where Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah and other senior leaders of the Pakistan Peoples Party were in attendance.
