Bollywood and Hollywood actress Priyanka Chopra has joined the calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, expressing her support for Palestinian children affected by the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas. Taking to Instagram, Chopra shared a post from the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), echoing the organization’s plea for a lasting humanitarian ceasefire. The post, attributed to UNICEF Executive Director Catherine Russell, emphasized the urgent need to protect children and provide assistance in accordance with international humanitarian law.

The Gaza Strip, according to the UNICEF post shared by Chopra, has become one of the most perilous places in the world for children. The caption accompanying the post highlighted the devastating impact of the conflict, noting that thousands of children have lost their lives, with many more sustaining serious injuries. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported over 18,200 casualties as a result of the conflict, including fatalities and injuries, since the outbreak of hostilities on October 7, 2023.
The Instagram post from UNICEF, dated December 2, illuminated the dire situation in Gaza, which was described as once again the most dangerous place in the world for children. The caption underscored the gravity of the circumstances, revealing that, before a brief pause in the violence, over 5,300 Palestinian children had reportedly lost their lives in 48 days of relentless bombing. This figure does not account for many children who remain missing and are presumed to be buried under the rubble.
Support for Ceasefire Extends Beyond Priyanka Chopra
In November, Priyanka Chopra, along with other influential figures including Richard Gere, Hasan Minhaj, Gigi Hadid, and Bella Hadid, conveyed their support for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza region through an open letter. Addressed to the US Congress and President Joe Biden, the letter urged decisive action to halt the conflict. Hollywood, however, has witnessed divisions over the Israel-Hamas conflict, with celebrities facing scrutiny for their positions. While figures like the Hadid sisters have expressed support for Palestine, others like Gal Gadot, known for her role in Wonder Woman, have staunchly stood by Israel.

The Israel-Hamas conflict, which began on October 7, has prompted responses from various corners, reflecting the ongoing debates within Hollywood. Notably, the talent agency UTA decided to part ways with Susan Sarandon as a client in November after her public statement in support of Palestine, though Sarandon later issued an apology for her remarks made at a rally.
Priyanka Chopra’s recent Instagram Stories resharing UNICEF’s plea underscores the continued international attention and concern for the humanitarian crisis being inflicted on Gazan civilians by Israeli settlets. The original post by UNICEF serves as a poignant reminder of the urgent need for a ceasefire to protect the lives and well-being of the most vulnerable population caught in the midst of conflict – the children.
