Pakistan Super League (PSL) streak returned to Dubai stadiums after a short sabbatical, with Multan Sultans taking on Islamabad United at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium Tuesday night, 26th February.
With only 2 points on the table, if the Multan Sultans wish to have a real shot at making it to the qualifiers, tonight’s encounter against United will be all about getting those precious two more points. As of now, Sultans are at the bottom of the barrel with only one win from five games so far.
Unexpectedly, Islamabad United have played it out much better and sit at the third position, with six points in the bag off five face-offs.
For United, there have been plenty of contributions to the team. New Zealand’s Luke Ronchi has been leading from the front with Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan chipping in.
Sultans won their only match of the tournament against United, beating them by five wickets at the same venue. They will aspire to repeat the feat when they face the Mohammad Sami-led side tonight.
On the other hand, two-time champions United kicked off their PSL campaign with a win against Lahore Qalandars by five wickets. This was chased by a loss at the hands of Sultans and Quetta Gladiators by seven wickets. However, they turned the tables around for themselves and beat Peshawar Zalmi by 12 runs and Karachi Kings by seven wickets.
Despite the Shoaib Malik led-Sultans boasting big names in their squad, no Sultans player has made a solid impact in the tournament so far.
