PTI leaders voluntarily surrender as Jail Bharo Tehreek begins

Imran Khan announced the Jail Bharo Movement against the federal government for inflicting custodial torture on his party leaders and delay in announcing fresh elections.

PTI has officially begun its Jail Bharo Tehreek today from Lahore. Senior PTI leaders have already begun surrendering.

According to the details, the party’s senior leaders including Vice-Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Asad Umar, and Azam Swati have voluntarily surrendered themselves to the law enforces.

Taking to Twitter earlier today, former prime minister Imran Khan said that the PTI is set to start the Jail Bharo campaign for two main reasons.

“One, it is a peaceful, non-violent protest against the attack on our constitutionally-guaranteed fundamental rights. We are facing sham FIRs and NAB cases, custodial torture, and attacks on journalists and social media people,” Imran Khan said.

“Two, it is against the economic meltdown brought on by the cabal of crooks who have money laundered billions in looted wealth and gotten NROs for themselves while crushing the people, especially the poor and middle class, under the burden of spiraling inflation and rising unemployment,” he further added.

Earlier this month, Imran Khan announced the Jail Bharo Tehreek against the federal government for inflicting custodial torture on his party leaders and delay in announcing fresh elections. The announcement came in the wake of sedition cases filed against his party leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Azam Swati, and Shahbaz Gill.

The Jail Bharo Movement began from Mall Road Charing Cross at 2 pm today. On the directions of Imran Khan, as many as 200 leaders and workers will surrender themselves for the Jail Bharo Movement.

In the first phase of the movement, the party’s senior leaders — Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar — voluntarily decided to surrender themselves to the authorities on Tuesday.

Former Punjab governor Umar Cheema, Senator Walid Iqbal, former Punjab minister Murad Raas, PTI ticket holders Muhammad Madni and Fawad Bhalar, and others will also surrender themselves in the first phase.
