The PTI has suspended the membership of Sher Afzal Marwat, a prominent and outspoken party leader elected to the National Assembly in the February 8 elections. This decision followed a meeting between incarcerated party founder Imran Khan and top leadership at Adiala Jail, as reported by Dawn.
Sources revealed that PTI leaders met Imran Khan on Thursday, where the decision to suspend Marwat was made. A formal statement is expected to be issued today.

According to party insiders, Marwat had been repeatedly violating party discipline and had made several statements over the past month criticizing party leaders. He allegedly made derogatory remarks about the party founder in one instance. During the meeting, it was emphasized that no leader is above the party, and any leader who crosses the party line would face similar consequences.
Notably, Marwat was removed from the PTI core and political committees in May by Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan, following Imran Khan’s orders. This was after Marwat made a controversial statement alleging Saudi Arabia’s involvement in Imran Khan’s ouster in April 2022, when Khan was removed from the PM’s office through a no-confidence motion by the joint opposition alliance.

Marwat, known for his controversial remarks, had accused both the US and Saudi Arabia of conspiring to topple the PTI government. The PTI publicly distanced itself from his comments, while Marwat maintained that they were his personal opinions, standing by them nonetheless.
Additionally, Marwat had criticized senior party members for depriving him of the Public Accounts Committee chairmanship. He alleged that Senate opposition leader Shibli Faraz informed Imran Khan about the Saudi ambassador’s reservations regarding his nomination for the key parliamentary committee.
