On May 9 of the previous year, there were widespread riots following the arrest of PTI founding chairman Imran Khan on corruption charges, resulting in attacks on several security installations nationwide.

Former President Dr. Arif Alvi, associated with the PTI, remarked on Wednesday that it was crucial for people across the nation to reconcile, hinting at the need for forgiveness from all sides regarding last year’s May 9 violence. His comments came after he visited an anti-terrorism court in Lahore, where he met with PTI leaders facing various legal challenges, including Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Dr. Yasmin Rashid, Omer Sarfraz Cheema, and Ejaz Chaudhary.
