PTI’s Fawad claims Ch. Shujaat can’t make decisions due to illness

Chaudhry Shujaat's last-minute letter to Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari completely changed the game.

PTI leader and former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat’s ability to make decisions is “limited due to his illness”. He made the comments while talking to journalists today.

To clarify, Chaudhry Shujaat’s last-minute letter to Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mazari completely changed the game of Punjab Chief Minister elections against PTI whose victory seemed confirmed.

PTI candidate Parvez Elahi had 186 votes (PTI and PML-Q combined) meanwhile PML-N candidate Hamza Shehbaz had 179 votes. At the last moment, Dost Mazari received a letter from PML-Q head Chaudhry Shujaat instructing his 10 MPAs to vote for PML-N’s candidate.

As a result, Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Dost Mohammad Mazari ruled that PML-Q members’ votes were not counted in light of the party head’s letter, consequently making Hamza Shehbaz the Chief Minister. Needless to say, PTI and PML-Q are not happy with Chaudhry Shujaat whose unexpected move is being considered a betrayal.

Criticism for Ch. Shujaat

Responding to the game-changing last-minute move, Fawad told journalists that Chaudhry Shujaat’s ability to make decisions is “limited due to his illness”. He also said that Shujaat’s thumb impressions “were taken on a blank paper”.

Chaudhry Shujaat is receiving intense criticism for his letter as he went against his own brother Parvez Elahi. His own party workers have protested against him.

PML-Q workers staged a protest against the party president Shujaat Hussain over his decision to not vote for Pervaiz Elahi. PML-Q workers vented anger against the party president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain over his decision regarding the CM Punjab election. The workers said that they have been supporting the Chaudhry brothers for two decades but Shujaat’s name will not be mentioned in the political history in a good context.

They expressed outrage that the workers cast vote to elect PML-Q lawmakers but the top leader bowed his head before someone else. They alleged that he sold his conscience to get the short-term rulership.
