Punjab Assembly crucial session couldn’t start on time

PTI has decided to file a contempt of court application against the deputy speaker of Punjab Assembly for failing to comply with the Supreme Court decision to start the session of Punjab Assembly at 4pm today to elect new Chief Minister of the province.

Chaudhry Fawad Hussain, leader of PTI, tweeted that PTI lawyers have been instructed to file a contempt of court petition against the deputy speaker Dost Mazari for unnecessary delay in the initiation of the crucial session of Punjab assembly. PTI lawyers will submit the application in the Supreme Court shortly.

It must be noted here that Dost Muhamamd Mazari belongs to PTI, however, he is accused of switching loyalty in favor of PDM.

Punjab Assembly session couldn’t start at time despite the order from Supreme Court to start the session at 4pm today. The session is of vital importance as the new Chief Minister of Punjab Assembly is to be elected in this session.

PTI’s and PMLQ’s 186 MPAs were seated in the assembly before 5 pm, Mian Aslam Iqbal of PTI had announced in the assembly, whereas just 15 MPAs of PMLn are present in the assembly hall so far, according to reports from ARY News. Although MPAs of both the coalitions and the deputy speaker are present in the building of the provincial assembly, the session is being delayed.

Reports have been circulating on media regarding a special letter that is to be read by the Deputy Speaker in the assembly, while the content or subject of the letter is yet unknown.

The PDM coalition in the Punjab Assembly is comprised of 168 MPAs of PMLN, 7 MPAs of PPP, 1 MPA of Pakistan Rah-e-Haq party and three independent MPAs, totaling to 179. On the other hand, Chaudhry Pervez Ilahi enjoys support from 178 MPAs of PTI and 10 MPAs of PMLQ, totaling to 188.

The magic number, required to be elected Chief Minister, in Punjab Assembly is 186, hence Chaudhry Parvez Ilahi will most likely be the next Chief Minister of Punjab.
