Rajender Meghwar becomes First Hindu Police Officer in Pakistan

Rajender Meghwar’s induction as ASP in Faisalabad Police marks a historic milestone, promoting inclusivity and minority representation in Pakistan’s civil services.

Rajender Meghwar has become the first Hindu officer in the Police Service of Pakistan. Following his induction, Meghwar resumed his duties in Faisalabad.

Meghwar has been posted as the Assistant Superintendent of Police in Faisalabad Police, Gulberg. He hails from a small town in Sindh, Badin. He joined the police force after passing the CSS exams.

Upon his appointment as the ASP, Meghwar stated that he is glad his dream of serving people had been fulfilled.

“For me, being part of the police force is an opportunity to make a difference at the grassroots level. Working in the police gives me the chance to address the concerns of my community in ways that would be difficult in other roles,” Meghwar said.

Police officials are happy with his inclusion in the Punjab Police. They believe the inclusion of the Hindu youth in Punjab Police since its formation will improve the performance of the department as well as it will help sort out issues of minorities as well.

“We are fortunate to have a Hindu officer. His inclusion will prove to be highly beneficial in Faisalabad. This will boost the concept of inclusivity in the police,” Geo News quoted a Police official.

More and more members from minority communities are joining the civil services of Pakistan- a phenomenon needed to maintain unity and social cohesion between the communities in Pakistan.

Another minority woman Roopmati from Rahim Yar Khan has also passed the CSS examination. The woman is excited to join Foreign Services of Pakistan to promote the soft image of Pakistan globally.

Two years back, Manisha Ropeta, became the first Hindu District Superintendent of Police (DSP). Ropeta belongs to a middle class from Jacobbabad. She is currently under training and will most likely be posted in Lyari.

Manisha Ropeta said that she wants to set the example that girls from good families can join police networks and work in district courts. She asserted that joining the police empowers women and girls.
