Rana Sanaullah calls Arshad Sharif’s murder ‘target killing’

On Friday, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif was slain by the Ahmad brothers, Khurram and Waqar, using Kenyan police.

On Friday, Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said that senior journalist and anchorperson Arshad Sharif was slain by the Ahmad brothers, Khurram and Waqar, using Kenyan police. The federal minister described Sharif’s murder as a “target killing”, claiming that “mistaken identity” was not the cause of this crime.

In an effort to provide a different picture, Sanaullah claimed that the Ahmad brothers assassinated Sharif alongside Kenyan police. He claimed, “Both the brothers are not even allowing access to the data on their cell phone.”

The interior minister asserted that Waqar had sponsored Sharif’s trip from Dubai to Kenya and that Sharif was staying in his flat.

Sanaullah said that Waqar, Khurram, and five Kenyan police officers were involved in the plot, noting that Sharif’s body bore signs of torture.

He continued by saying that the individuals who fired at the journalist knew exactly whom they were shooting at. He claimed that they were aware of Sharif’s seating position.

“We have the evidence against those who forced Sharif to leave the country. Some people called him and told him to leave while some say that Sharif left due to the situation in the country. However, Arshad Sharif did not want to leave the country,” he added.

Sanaullah added that the danger alert was sent out to frighten the murdered journalist. He added that there is proof of how Sharif was forced to board the aircraft from Peshawar.

Waqar, he added, was the one who assisted Sharif in obtaining an online visa. The latter did not previously know the former.

“We have the record of everything including why Sharif went to Waqar’s house and stayed as a guest,” said the minister, adding that Waqar is not being named in the case because the commission has yet to go and look into these matters.

Because the Kenyan police are not cooperating, the interior minister stated he will ask Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to speak with the Kenyan president once more.

The killing of Sharif by Kenyan police earlier today was the subject of a thorough investigation, according to the chairwoman of Kenya’s Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

Arshad Sharif was shot on the night of October 23 by Kenya’s General Services Unit (GSU) officers, according to IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori. A “full and complete investigation to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the shooting” has been launched, she added.

The IPOA head also commented on the rumours that Sharif had endured horrendous torture prior to his death.
