If the media reports are to be believed then the police arrested on Friday the son-in-law of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Rana Sanaullah from court premises when he reached to meet the PML-N leader.
While relying on sources, Geo News reported that PML-N’s Punjab president’s son-in-law Sheryar was taken into custody and shifted to an unidentified location. The news report said that the police have not given any reason for the arrest.
Rana Sanaullah’s Judicial Remand Extended Till August 24
Meanwhile, an anti-narcotics court conducted hearing of drug smuggling case against Rana Sanaullah and extended judicial custody remand till August 24 in the drug smuggling case.
The ANF, which is responsible for curbing drug use and smuggling, had said in a statement that “we do not make arrests without reason. A large quantity of drugs was recovered from Sanaullah’s car”.
According to the TV channels, the court sought the CCTV footage of Sanaulah’s arrest on the next date of hearing and directed the suspect to hire a lawyer.
When the case was taken up, the media reported, the court directed the prosecution to hand over copies of the challan to the PML-N leader. Also, the court directed the Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) to present closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage of Sanaullah’s arrest on the next hearing.
During the hearing, Sanaullah’s lawyer Mohsin Bhatti informed the court that Rs600,000 was in his client’s car when the police arrested him, adding that the money has not yet been returned. While approving the request, a media report said, the court directed that Sanaullah’s belongings be returned if not confiscated as case property.
ANF Arrests Rana Sanaullah for Carrying Drugs
On July 1, ANF had arrested PML-N Punjab President Rana Sanaullah for “possessing a large quantity of drugs in his vehicle”.
ANF Lahore had arrested Sanaullah, who served as Punjab law minister during the previous PML-N government, from the Islamabad-Lahore motorway near Sukheki while he was traveling from Faisalabad to Lahore.

Sanaullah, a close aide of the Sharif brothers, was elected Member of the National Assembly from Faisalabad in July 2018 general elections. He was appointed as the PML-N Punjab president in May this year.
