Bollywood stars Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh face criticism over naming their daughter ‘Dua’.
The couple was blessed with a baby girl in September 2024. They recently shared the first glimpse of their daughter on Instagram and revealed the name of their daughter ‘Dua’. “Dua Padukone Singh. ‘Dua’: meaning a prayer. Because she is the answer to our prayers. Our hearts are filled with love and gratitude,” read the caption of the post on Instagram.
The couple soon faced criticism on social media from extremists and naysayers who slammed the couple for naming their daughter after an Arabic name- Dua, which means a prayer, a means of supplicating God in Islam. Some criticized why an Urdu name and not a Hindi name.

“Why not Prarthana and why Dua? Why not Hindi but Urdu?” one user on Instagram asked. Another commented, “You’re Sanatani, right? So why not Prarthana?”
However, others targeted the naysayers and slammed them for unnecessarily into the personal life of the couple. “Deepika & Ranveer have named their daughter Dua Padukone Singh Bhakts are asking why is her name Dua and not Prarthana,” said one user on Twitter.
“Deepika Padukone kept her daughter’s name ‘Dua’. Bhakts are going to have a heart attack now,” said another user on Twitter. The couple has not responded to the social media criticism.
On Friday, Deepika Padukone made her first public appearance with her daughter. The actress was seen holding her baby girl in her arms as they were photographed at the Mumbai airport. Deepika was joined by her husband, actor Ranveer Singh. Two months after the birth of their daughter, the family headed to vacation for an undisclosed location.
Several videos and pictures of Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh holding the baby have gone viral on social media. Padukone dressed casually while Ranveer Singh wore a hoodie.
