Rao Anwar has the right to a transparent investigation: Bilawal

Pakistan’s People Party (PPP) Bilawal Bhutto Zardari demanded a ban against police encounters all over the country. He said that while addressing a press conference related to the launch of PPP’s membership drive. Speaking in reference to the Naqeebullah murder case, he said that he condemns the brutal encounter and demands a ban against all encounters in the country.

On the other hand, he also demanded a fair and transparent trial for former SSP Malir Rao Anwar. He denied the allegations that the law and order situation in Sindh has become worse, he claimed that the situation has improved greatly in the past few years. Responsibility of Naqeebullah’s murder case also lies on PPP, it being the ruling party in Sindh for the past nine years.  Bilawal understood this burden of blame and defended his government by stating that the law and order situation is improving.

The inquiry committee has complained that Anwar has not been cooperating with them. It will be interesting to see how this story develops as more facts about the case continue to get revealed.

Naqeebullah Mehsud was a shopkeeper and a model on Facebook. The Malir police murdered him in an encounter on January 12th. Mehsud’s murder resulted in a huge outrage on social media, with people posting condolences on Mehsud’s profile and demanding justice for his murder. SSP Rao Anwar claimed that Mehsud was a TTP militant but he failed to produce any evidence to back his claims. The murder received nationwide condemnation; the Supreme Court (SC) has also taken a suo moto notice of the murder.

Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq also raised his voice in demanding justice for the brutal murder of Naqeebullah. The JI chief visited Sohrab Goth to offer condolences to Naqeebullah’s family. While speaking to the media in Sohrab Goth, he said that Naqeebullah was a peaceful citizen and had no connections with any terrorist organizations. He lamented the deteriorating law enforcement conditions in Karachi, claiming that more than 400 people have been killed in around 118 police encounters.

Mehsud’s murder resulted in a huge outrage on social media, with people posting condolences on Mehsud’s profile and demanding justice for his murder. SSP Rao Anwar claimed that Mehsud was a TTP militant but he failed to produce any evidence to back his claims.

Sirajul Haq demanded the provincial chief minister to conduct an urgent inquiry of the case. “His only fault was that he belonged to a tribal area,” Siraj lamented. He also regretted that Pakistan is the only country where people are not granted the right to a fair trial, murdering someone without a trail is against basic human rights. Sirajul also asked the authorities that if SSP Rao Anwar is not responsible for the murder then the real perpetrators should be made public.

Rao Anwar has pleaded his innocence and has stated that he is being framed. He failed to show up to the hearing probing into extrajudicial killing of Mehsud. The inquiry committee has complained that Anwar has not been cooperating with them. It will be interesting to see how this story develops as more facts about the case continue to get revealed.
