General Zaheer-ul-Islam, former Director-General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) had asked Nawaz Sharif to resign, according to journalist Rauf Klasra, as reported by ‘Siasat.pk.’
Senior journalist and analyst Rauf Klasra has said that PML-N leader Mian Nawaz Sharif revealed that during the PTI sit-in in Islamabad, the then DG ISI General Zaheerul Islam had told Nawaz Sharif that he should resign or else martial law would get imposed in the country.
Message to resign was delivered by a ‘business tycoon’ to Nawaz: Rauf Klasra
Rauf Klasra said that people think that General Zaheerul delivered the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, this message himself
Rauf explains that General Zaheerul Islam had sent this message through a civilian. This civilian personality, Rauf continued, is one of the country’s ‘biggest tycoons’, who also has close ties with many political parties.

He further said that the business tycoon, after consulting his friends and close ones, conveyed the message to Nawaz Sharif, which Nawaz Sharif ‘heard from one ear and removed from the other’ and did not take seriously, or respond.
After the Model town incident where 14 people had been killed by the police during the tenure of then Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif, a ‘corp commanders’ meeting had been called where it had been decided that Shahbaz Sharif should be asked to resign.
General Raheel Sharif and DG ISI General Zaheer-ul-Islam had later met Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his tenure, discussed various issues but General Raheel Sharif did not convey the message of Corps Commander Zaka to Nawaz Sharif, Rauf relayed.

Rauf Klasra said that perhaps Raheel Sharif himself was not entirely convinced of the idea of Nawaz Sharif or Shahbaz Sharif resigning at that time. He said that perhaps that is why Raheel Sharif did not convey this message to Nawaz. According to Rauf, General Raheel Sharif did not agree with the idea that martial law should be imposed in the country either, but whether General Raheel Sharif was aware of the message sent by General Zaheer to Nawaz Sharif or not is still unresolved.
