Riz Ahmed, Sadiq Khan most influential Asians in Britain

Riz Ahmed and Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, are the two Pakistanis that have bagged top positions in the list of 101 Influential Asians in Britain. Riz Ahmed securing the fourth position, failed to topple Khan from his top position for the second consecutive year.

Asian Media Group prepares the GG2 power list that was published on Thursday. Every year the list is produced to honor the people who rose to popularity after their hard work and achievements.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan beat the cabinet minister of communication Sajid Javid. Both belong to the humble backgrounds and have secured an undisputed influential position in the politics of London.

Riz Ahmed, is a British Pakistani Hollywood actor who secured the fourth position in the list. He won the Emmy Award for his flawless performance as an accused Pakistani student of murder in HBO’s series, ‘Night Of’.

According to the editors of the list, Ahmed has made the remarkable stride in his career in Hollywood in recent months. In his acceptance speech at the award ceremony, he candidly talked about the racial discrimination he has faced on different occasions.

His strong speech appeased his listeners and admirers. Shailesh Solanki, editor of GG2 Power list said, “Riz Ahmed has been very outspoken and vociferous about issues of diversity, but it’s important to recognize that [the success of the people on the list] builds on the efforts of previous generations [of actors] like Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar.”

Whereas, Sadiq Khan has been enjoying huge support from the people of London. According to one of the commentators, Pakistanis landing in top positions in the list will help break the stereotype that Pakistanis can either be shopkeepers or doctors.

Pakistanis, indeed are capable and are gradually rising to positions of influence in Britain.
