Russian model dies from exhaustion

News Desk |

If you thought modeling is easy, you are wrong. A 14-year-old model has died after suffering from ‘utter exhaustion’ during a grueling three-month assignment in China. Vlada Dzyuba collapsed and slipped into a coma before she was about to run a catwalk at a fashion show in Shanghai.

She has quickly whisked away to the hospital where she was found suffering from chronic meningitis after the exhausting 12-hour show. Doctors tried their best to revive her but she died two days later.

It is alleged the young model was too ‘scared’ to ask for medical help as she was on a ‘slave labor’ contract. She was supposed to be on a contract which permitted her to work a maximum three hours a week. Before she went into a coma she had told her mother back home in Russia by phone that she was exhausted.

Vlada is reported to have attended a 13-hour jewelry modeling shoot before collapsing. Now her parents “cannot afford” to fly her body home and she is expected to be cremated with her ashes returned to her homeland after a month. However, Russian diplomats have asked that a cremation is delayed until her mother – Oksana – arrives in China.

Various Human Rights Organization have labeled this practice as “modern-day slavery” and have called upon the Russian government to ensure the protection of the rights of Russian models worldwide.

On an earlier contract in China, Vlada received just £6.30 a day for her catwalk appearances once her airfares, hotels, food, and insurance had been taken from her earnings, reported the Russian media.

The Chinese modeling agency involved in her latest trip has denied overworking her – but new facts have emerged that raise concern over the working conditions of a girl who was not accompanied by her mother.

Among these is the length of her employment hours, which could be more than eight hours a day, and how she could be in China without medical insurance.

Russia is considered to be home to most beautiful women in the world and modeling agencies from around the world visit Russia every year to select models who then do modeling for their employers worldwide.
