General Secretary of Pakistan Tehreek-I-Insaf (PTI) Salman Akram Raja has allegedly resigned from his party position on Thursday.
Reports of his resignation are circulating on social media. PTI’s followers and supporters immensely criticized Salman Akram Raja for not supporting the party during the November 24th, 2024 protest in Islamabad. Not only him but senior leadership from Lahore and Central Punjab also came under harsh criticism for not participating in the protest despite assurances.
Voters and supporters believe that had the leadership from the Punjab region joined the protest, it would not have been easy for the government to launch a brutal crackdown on the protestors at midnight.
“At least 20 supporters of the PTI were killed in yesterday’s protest in Islamabad. We have complete bio-data and videos of eight of them,” the PTI leader said in a video statement released on social media on Wednesday.
While Salman Akram Raja claimed only 20 people lost their lives, social media reports claim more than 100 protestors were killed as a result of straight firing from the security forces. The government had launched an intense crackdown on protestors and marchers to disperse them from D-Chowk. Several reports claim the use of straight fire from the government on protestors resulted in heavy casualties.

“And, details about the remaining others will be released to the media,” said Salman Akram Raja in the video statement.
He also stated that PTI would take legal action against the actions of the government. “We will approach the courts against the government, the Ministry of interior, and the interior minister,” said Raja in the video. However, his explanation in the video seems to have failed to satisfy the disgruntled voters and supporters of the party.
Not only from Salman Akram Raja but party followers are also demanding resignations from the key leaders who failed to mark their presence at D-Chowk Islamabad.
