Samsung launches touch ready 4K projector with smart features

Samsung’s Premiere 5 offers 4K ultra-short-throw projection, touch interaction, smart features, and gaming in a compact, stylish form.

Samsung has officially launched The Premiere 5, its latest ultra-short-throw (UST) laser projector, in South Korea. First unveiled at CES 2025, this innovative device stands out with its compact size, triple-laser system, 4K resolution, and groundbreaking touch interaction capabilities. Priced at KRW 1.99 million (approximately $1,380), the projector is designed to bring immersive experiences to both work and play.

Touch Interaction: Turning Surfaces into Screens

The most talked-about feature of The Premiere 5 is its built-in touch functionality. Equipped with an infrared (IR) laser module and an IR camera, the projector can track up to 10 simultaneous touch points, allowing users to interact directly with the projected image. This turns any flat surface—like a table or a wall—into a giant touchscreen.

This innovation opens new possibilities in education, business, and entertainment. Users can pinch to zoom, scroll through documents, or even play interactive games. The unit needs to be mounted in a support structure for touch mode, and while some shadowing may occur, early demonstrations show responsive and accurate touch input.

Triple-Laser 4K Projection with Auto-Optimization

The Premiere 5 uses a triple-laser light source—dedicated red, green, and blue lasers—to project sharp 4K resolution images up to 100 inches in size from just 43 cm away. This UST capability means it can sit close to the wall or projection surface while still delivering a massive display.

The projector includes Vision Booster technology, which automatically senses ambient lighting conditions and adjusts contrast, brightness, and color to enhance image clarity. Features like autofocus, auto keystone correction, and fit-to-screen ensure a smooth setup and optimal viewing experience every time.

Smart TV Features Powered by Tizen OS 9.0

Running on Tizen OS 9.0 with the One UI interface, The Premiere 5 brings a full smart TV experience. Users can stream content via popular apps, access Samsung TV Plus, and enjoy Apple AirPlay integration. Gaming is also supported through Samsung Gaming Hub, with compatibility for Xbox Cloud Gaming, GeForce Now, Luna, and more. Gamers can benefit from a 32:9 aspect ratio for immersive gameplay and a Dynamic Black mode for better shadow detail.

SmartThings Integration and Audio Capabilities

The projector doubles as a smart home control center via SmartThings. Users can manage connected devices directly from the projector’s touch interface—whether adjusting lights or monitoring other smart gadgets.

Audio is handled by a built-in 10W stereo speaker system with Dolby Atmos support for 360-degree sound. The device can also serve as a Bluetooth speaker. Its remote includes a solar panel on the back for eco-friendly charging, with USB-C as a backup.

Compact and stylish, The Premiere 5 measures 136.7 x 200.9 x 139.1 mm (with stand) and weighs enough to be portable yet stable. Connectivity options include two HDMI ports (one with eARC), USB-C, Bluetooth 5.2, and Wi-Fi 5.
